> About Eating Out
What to bring?
- Your passport
- A pen, to fill out the entry form on the ferry
- Lots of small Euro notes (5€ , 10€, 20€)
If you do not have small Euro notes, then this is no problem.
There are ATM machines in the main street of the New Town, where you can also exchange currencies in the banks.
Languages
No need to worry that you can not make yourself clear. Many, if not half of all the Tangerois speak English, Spanish, French, but also German and Dutch are very common.

Shopping in Tangier
It is not difficult to see why many residentials at the Spanish coast often go to Tangier for a day of shopping:
- The proximity
- The original products
- The feel of travel
In the increasingly uniform world of shops, where commercial centres all look alike from Helsinki to Marbella, Tangier is a bit of fresh air.
With the psalm of cleaning, sweaping, hammering, constructing all over the city, and Tangier clearly heading towards becoming the new Seville, the amount of one day trippers coming from Spain is almost doubling with each month.
Because, yes, Tangier makes a day or weekend of shopping out of the ordinary.
Special small gifts
- Perfume in antique bottles
- Small pieces of natural soap
- Berber beauty products
- Natural tea herbs or leaves
Do not miss the perfumerie on the Place des Paresseux!
Added value
The average person in northern Morocco has an ecological footprint that is far smaller than in southern Spain.
No bag of salad is flown over from Kenya, nor did any of the majority of products come from further than the local ateliers or the nearby fields.
Secondly, you support an economy that can still need support.
And the men go to...?
A hairdresser. A lot cheaper here than on the Costa del Sol.
Or why not discover one of the furniture outlets out of the souks, in the alleys of the upper Medina?
Also, for someone coming from the Costa del Sol, it is quite a discovery to see bookshops! And good ones for that matter, for lovers of literature that love to browse through old master pieces.

Starting Point
From the Ferry Port, take a 'Petit Taxi' and ask for Le Boulevard, or Hotel El Minzah.
Now you are at the 'Terrace of the Lazy' which is the ideal starting or meeting point for any trip to Tangier.
The Ferry
Ferries arrive all day long, and the last ferry usually leaves around 10 pm. A good idea is to arrive in the beginning of the afternoon, and to leave early in the evening.
Taxi?
A taxi to start, and walking back. Take the taxi to the Place de France in the new town, and then organise your itinerary in such a way that you slowly walk back to the Ferry Port.
You can do so by, behind Hotel El Minzah, take the stairs down to the Small Souk, from there into the Souk, the Kasbah, and you will already see the ferry port again. But take it easy. This whole walk does not take longer than an hour.
There is no shortage of taxis, nowhere.
Which taxi?
As anywhere else in Morocco, you will see two types of taxis: a Petit Taxi is a small blue taxi that will take you anywhere within city limits.
The Grand Taxi is usually an old mercedes that can take you anywhere, also to other cities.
How much time?
You can do the whole circle of Tangier centre (new town, medina, souk) in one hour.
Depending on how much shopping and tea rooms you intend to do, we suggest to plan at least 3 to 5 hours.
